NFL Recap: Broncos Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
During a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Broncos clinched a 13-11 win over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late go-ahead field goal to secure the hard-fought win.
Dominant Performance Seals Game
Despite registering nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after giving up a two-point play in the third quarter. Remarkably, the Jets managed a mere 82 total net yards during the entire game.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's short kick with just over five minutes left.
Record Difficulties for Jets Offense
In spite of their horrendous offensive display, the Jets maintained possession with a chance to drive for a potential victory. But Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 after head coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion instead of calling on kicker Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback had difficulties all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. The Jets finished with negative ten net yards passing, the lowest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," the coach commented after the game.
